Ronald Poplawski - Class Of 1961

Ronald S. Poplawski, 72, of the Greenwood section of Moosic died Monday after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, the former Barbara Grogan.

Born in Moosic, son of the late Stanley and Stella Zaremba Poplawski, he was a 1961 graduate of South Catholic High School. After playing in the Dream Game of 1961, Ron enlisted with the Marines to faithfully serve our country during the Vietnam War, and attained the rank of corporal. Ron retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he was a microwave satellite technician, and he was previously employed by Contempri Homes, Mark 4. He was a devoted parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish, was active at the Divine Mercy Table and was a member of the Marine Corps League, the Greenwood Sportsman Club, Green Run Widowmakers and the Moosic American Legion. Over the years, he coached numerous Little League teams, and was a proud grandfather, always cheering and supporting his grandchildren's endeavors. He always made time for family and friends to lend a helping hand, was an avid hunter, enjoyed carpentry and loved Penn State. His favorite song was "My Way" by Elvis.

The Poplawskis would like to extend a heartfelt note of gratitude to the AseraCare Hospice, especially Tamara, Megan and Pastor John for all their support the past few months. They would also like to acknowledge Dr. Rajen Oza, Indubhai Patel, Gail, Sharon, the physician assistant, Susan and the SP unit of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp., for all their unparalleled astounding care and respect over the years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sandy, Spring Brook Twp.; two sons, Ronald G., Spring Brook Twp.; and Matthew S. and life companion, Jennifer Neishell, Moosic; four grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua, Matthew and Alexis; a brother, Paul; and a sister, Carol Kosciuk, both of the Greenwood section of Moosic; three sisters-in-law, Christine Pritchard and husband, Al, Minooka section of Scranton; D'Anne Garvey and husband, Chuck, North Scranton; and Faith Grogan, Clarks Summit; nieces and nephews.

A brother-in-law, Arthur Grogan, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli. Military honors will be provided by the Marines. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
