REV. STANLEY J. KURASH  -  OBITUARY

Reverend Stanley J. Kurash, died on Friday, February 13, 2015. Father Kurash, son of the late Stanley Joseph and Eleanor (Elaine) Watral Kurash, was born in Scranton on December 20, 1944.

He received his early education at Greenwood Elementary School and graduated from South Scranton Central Catholic High School. He attended the University of Scranton and Saint Mary's College in Michigan. He studied for the priesthood at Saint Pius X Seminary, Dalton and Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure, New York. Father Kurash was ordained to the priesthood on December 11, 1971, in Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, by the Most Reverend J. Carroll McCormick, D.D., late Bishop of Scranton.

Father Kurash was assigned as an assistant pastor at Saint John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale; Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke; Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming; Saint Mary's Assumption Church, Scranton and St. Mary's Church, Old Forge. He was named Pastor of Saint Mary's Church Blossburg on November 10, 1983.


He is survived by a brother Michael Kurash, of Hudson, FL; nieces and nephews, including Michael Kurash, and wife Casey, and their daughter Mya; Kara Haines, and husband Justin, and their children Aaryn and Stella; and Christopher Kurash, and his son Caleb; and several cousins.

He was also preceded in death by an infant nephew, Jon Kurash.

Viewing will take place at the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon Street, Old Forge, Robert J. Gillette, Funeral Director on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A Pontifical Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Scranton, on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace Street, Old Forge, PA. Viewing will also take place in the church Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 AM.
Interment will be in Saint Mary of Czestochowa Cemetery, Greenwood section of Moosic.
