Peter White - Class Of 1974

Peter White, a South Scranton resident, passed away Feb. 24 at Regional Hospital.

Born in Scranton on March 27, 1956, he was the son of the late Jack and Libby (Elizabeth Egan) White. He was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School and the University of Scranton. Until his retirement, he was employed as a social worker at the Lackawanna County Prison.

Pete was an avid reader and movie buff. He was especially close to his great-nieces and nephews who looked forward to his daily visits to play their favorite board games. Sunday morning breakfast was not complete until "Uncle Pete" arrived with the doughnuts. Peter was a gift to his family. His quiet presence and dry sense of humor will be forever missed.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Kochis and husband, Stephen; brother-in-law, David Hatfield; sister-in-law, Marilyn White; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Trudy Hatfield and Betsey Rieder; and his brother, Damian White.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, on Tuesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. to be celebrated by the Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin, pastor. Masks and social distancing will be required. Inurnment, private at the convenience of the family.
