Theresa (Maros) Coolbaugh, age 70, of Moosic, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of March 2nd, after waiting almost three weeks to see her beloved husband of almost fifty years. They had been both hospitalized on the same day almost three weeks prior. He, and her entire immediate family, gathered around her Friday evening. She is survived by her beloved husband, best friend and caregiver, Paul Coolbaugh. The couple would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 27th. He has lovingly and willfully cared for her after she became bedridden seven years ago.
Born on October 25, 1948, she spent her entire life in the Greenwood section of Moosic. Theresa now rejoins her parents, the late Frank and Jean Malinosky, whom she missed dearly. A graduate of the former South Scranton Central Catholic High School, she then attended Lackawanna Business College before beginning her career spanning over 32 years with Bell Telephone Company, prior to her 2000 retirement. She belonged to St. Mary Czestochowa Church, prior to its closure.
Theresa was amazingly talented with a sewing machine, having sewn clothing for herself and making Halloween costumes for her children, while also crocheting. She crocheted a blanket for each of her grandchildren. Despite working full time and countless overtime hours, she always found time for her children and their activities, including being a girl scout leader and being active on many of her son’s sporting trips. Many high school gatherings, including years of hall decorating, took place at her home which was always welcoming to friends and family. Above all, she was extremely proud of her grandchildren and boasted about each of them to everyone she would speak to. She felt blessed she got to spend as many years as she did with them and to witness their great life accomplishments thus far. Her husband never left her side while remaining great teammates throughout the raising of their two children. The couple went on many trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas where they saw Barbara Streisand, her favorite. Together they gave their children a loving home and magical childhood, while giving both their children and their grandchildren everything they possibly could. Theresa will be forever missed.
She is also survived by her daughter, Karen Gilchrist and husband John, II, of Moosic; her son, Thomas J. Coolbaugh, still at home; brothers, Stanley Maros and wife Carol of Scranton, Walter Maros of Duryea and John Maros and wife Marie of Moosic; four grandchildren, Johnny, III, Tiffani, Nicole and Valentina Gilchrist, all of Moosic; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and her longtime co-workers and loyal friends, Lois Linko of Lake Ariel and Bill Fath of Avoca.
Her granddaughter, Kiara Christi Gilchrist; a brother, Francis “Frank” Maros; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Maros, also preceded her in death.
Her family would be remiss not to thank all of those who provided such great care and kindness to Theresa throughout her illness, especially the staff of Allied Hospice; Drs. Peter Cognetti, Erin McFadden and Stephen Opsasnick; and Melony of Erwine Home and Health.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM at Divine Mercy, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Pauselli, Pastor. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
