Gerald Snyder - Class Of 1965

Gerald J. "Jerry" Snyder, 67, a lifelong resident of South Scranton, died Wednesday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Gail Chapman.

 

He was born in Scranton, the son of Annette Scioscia, Scranton, and the late John Snyder. A graduate of South Catholic High School, he served with the Navy during the Vietnam War. A member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church, he attended Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit. He had been employed by GNB Battery and retired from St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where he worked as the custodian.

 

He was devoted and loving to his family; he especially loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He was an animal lover, especially Charlie, Phoebe and Barney. He enjoyed television; "Law and Order" or any kinds of Western shows were at the top of his list. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, never missing an opening game for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons or the RailRiders.

 

Also surviving are a son, Jeff Snyder and his wife, Kathleen, Clarks Summit; two daughters, Tricia Eales and her companion, Mark Cable, Charlotte, N.C.; and Sara Kearney and her husband, Todd, Scranton; three grandchildren, Aidan Eales, Colin Eales and Emily Snyder; three brothers, Jack Snyder, Scranton; Thomas Snyder and his wife, Judy, Dunmore; and David Snyder and his companion, Mary Ellen Piccotti, Old Forge; a sister, Anne Coviello and her husband, Joseph, Clarks Summit; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
